“A bug is never just a mistake. It represents something bigger. An error of thinking that makes you who you are.” -Elliot, Mr. Robot

Once again, Yahoo is in the news because of a security hack where bad actors have gained access to Yahoo’s customer’s email accounts.

Here’s the full text of the Yahoo notice.

For the past several months, I have been recommending to my people that they move away from Yahoo mail and look towards something like Google’s Gmail or MSN’s Livemail. There just seems to be too many entry points into the Yahoo system.

If you recall from back in 2013, Yahoo email had a problem with cross site scripting where a crafty hacker could create a series of emails that would compromise your account.

Then there was the major password breach revelation in the summer of 2016, which indicated that over 1 billion user accounts had been compromised.

And there was this little gem regarding a piece of software that spied on user accounts.

Now there is this forged cookie hack where bad actors use cookies to bypass the need for passwords and gain access to your web email account directly.

I’m sure your information and accounts are important to you. So if you want to spend more time finding sales and less time worrying if the wrong people have access to the information necessary for your livelihood, host your accounts on another service.
